The plot has three characters representing 3 archetypes.
Dorothy : The protagonist represents innocence. It represents all those who come to the program to recover. It is also blindness about trusting the wickedness.
Wicked Witches of the West: “IT”is the antagonist and represents the force of darkness. “IT”thrives on devouring the forces of good and innocence.
In order to hide “ITS” true identity, It has created layers and layers of masks. This way “ITS” true identity would not be revealed.
One of its masks is very interesting and revealing. That is the mask of being a “Gay Man”. The narcissist are not whole people. They are an empty shell . The shell itself is the image they present to the world. Therefore they don’t have identities . Sexuality ( of any kind) is the identity of a whole person. The narcissist ‘s claims to sexuality ( of any kind) is a narcissistic supply and not identity.
I think one of the most insidious prejudice against the gay community is when a narcissist claims to be gay.
"Flying Monkeys": represent blindness to the truth. But, it has a sophistication about it . In Philosophy, it is called “Categorical Imperative”. In recovery it means, Regardless of the circumstance , they will follow the program. They are just like machines. They are not able to interpret their surroundings.
They don’t have a notion , what their "so-called great program" means. Their program is the source of their blindness.
In this story, they are not able to see the dynamic of the relationship between Dorothy and "Wicked Witches of the West" .
They are not like Dorothy, who sees the “Emperor has no clothes" on.
For me these were two of my home meetings that were so dear to me.
Location. The location of the plot is any 12 steps meeting. In a sense, the 12 steps meetings become a metaphor for "Winkie County" in the original story.
The challenges to the plot.
The original story “Wicked Witches of the west” was ugly and wicked. That doesn’t work in the new location. it needed an acceptable recovery look to it. It needed many different forms of masks and a bag full of many tricks,
This caused an issue with the blindness of Flying Monkeys. In the original story, their blindness was inherent within them. They couldn't see the "naked truth".
In my narrative, the blindness is not within them , but it is located with “Wicked Witches of the West”. As far their concern, "IT" is doing everything by the book. "It" takes a high road with service and helping others. "it" also talks about God in every few sentences . So the lies reside in "it".
